Professor Sheikh Morshed Jahan

A tenured business school professor and an international development policy expert, Prof. Sheikh Morshed Jahan is based at IBA, University of Dhaka since 1993. Besides teaching strategy, economics, Bangladesh studies, and project management, he researches and advises in the areas of inclusive growth, MSME competitiveness, digital economy, agriculture and food security, market development, and global industry value chains, among others. As an international consultant, he served in multi-country projects and facilitated institutional capacity building workshops in countries such as Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Laos PDR, Cambodia, Thailand, Philippines, Nepal, Bhutan, etc. in the capacity of an international consultant to the World Bank, UNDP, ASEAN Economic Research Institute, Mekong Institute, etc. He also served as a distinguished member of the United Nations ESCAP Advisory Panel on SME Development in Asia and the Pacific and contributed to the SME Policy Guidelines.
Prof. Jahan got published, among others, two books (on SMEs in regional value chains) and one report (on MSMEs’ Access to Finance) by United Nations ESCAP. His consulting assignments (e.g. with GoB, USAID, UKaid, SDC, etc.) involved inclusive market development intervention, stakeholder engagement facilitation, capacity building, policy and action research, value chain development, P2P networking, and professional development.
He holds an AM in international development policy from Duke University, where he was a Joint Japan/World Bank scholar. He did his MBA from IBA, University of Dhaka. He was also a Commonwealth Fellow at IIM-A. He is a Co-founder of Sustainable Market Foundation and of Center for Development and Competitive Strategies Ltd. (CDCS®). He is also a founding Trustee of the Center for Inclusive Development Dialogue.
