Dr. Mustafa K Mujeri

Dr. Mujeri is an experienced development economist with extensive national and international experience. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from McMaster University, Canada, and began his career as an associate professor of economics at Rajshahi University. He has worked with organizations such as UNDP, IDRC, CIRDAP, and the Bangladesh Planning Commission, and has served as visiting faculty at the University of Queensland. He has published widely in journals and books, including Bangladesh at Fifty, Structural Transformation of Bangladesh Economy, and Bangladesh’s Quest for Inclusive Development. His research focuses on poverty, SDGs, financial inclusion, rural finance, macroeconomic policy, and sustainable development.

Prof. Ismail is a senior economist and academic with extensive experience in teaching, research, and policy advisory roles. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Toronto, Canada, and previously served as Professor of Economics at Jahangirnagar University. He has taught at several universities in Bangladesh, including Rajshahi University and Shahjalal University of Science & Technology. He has supervised numerous PhD candidates and published widely in academic journals and book chapters. Prof. Ismail has also advised the Government of Bangladesh and international organizations such as the World Bank, ADB, and UNDP, and served on national panels for the preparation of Bangladesh’s 7th and 8th Five Year Plans.

Prof. Dr. AFM Mafizul Islam is a distinguished academic and social scientist with extensive experience in higher education, research, and international development. He holds two doctoral degrees—Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Dhaka and DBA from Warsaw Management University. He has taught at leading public and private universities in Bangladesh and abroad, including long-term academic roles in the UK and Poland. Dr. Islam has led and contributed to numerous research initiatives and has worked as an international expert in 14 countries with organizations such as UNDP, USAID, World Bank, ADB, and ILO. He has published extensively and remains actively engaged in development research, policy advisory work, and social welfare initiatives.

Professor Salma Akhter

Salma Akhter is a senior sociologist at the University of Dhaka. She holds First Class Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Sociology and an MPhil from the University of Cambridge as a Commonwealth Scholar. She has presented at international conferences worldwide and served on editorial and academic committees. Prof. Akhter has worked as a consultant with UN agencies and development partners, with expertise in gender, education, health, poverty, NGOs, WATSAN, local governance, and indigenous community issues in Bangladesh.

Sheikh Morshed Jahan is a tenured professor at IBA, University of Dhaka, and an international development policy expert. He has taught and advised on strategy, inclusive growth, MSMEs, digital economy, and market development since 1993. He has worked as an international consultant with organizations such as the World Bank, UNDP, and UN ESCAP, and has published on SMEs and access to finance. He holds an AM from Duke University, an MBA from IBA, University of Dhaka, and is a Commonwealth Fellow of IIM Ahmedabad.

Arsalan Zaman is an accounting professional and Trustee of CIDD with strong expertise in organizational leadership and financial management. He has extensive experience in building effective teams, strengthening institutional systems, and managing sustainable development projects. As Executive Director of SNAD Foundation, he oversees finance, grants management, administration, compliance, reporting, planning, and project implementation. He is known for his strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with staff, boards, donors, and other stakeholders.

Arsalan Zaman CIDD Trustee member

Dr. Md. Zahidul Islam

Trustee, CIDD

Md. Zahidul Islam is a legal scholar, researcher, and consultant with over two decades of experience in academia, legal practice, and development work. Before joining Independent University of Bangladesh as a full-time academic, he practiced law at the Supreme Court of Bangladesh for 15 years, specializing in constitutional and criminal law. He has worked as a researcher and consultant with national and international organizations including UNDP, UNICEF, DFID, British Council, and government institutions. Dr. Islam holds a PhD and MPhil in Law and Governance from Jawaharlal Nehru University, India, and LLB and LLM degrees from the University of Dhaka. His expertise includes political economy analysis, governance, gender, law, and religion, and he has authored books and published widely in journals and national media on governance and legal issues.

A K M Mahfuzuddin Ahmed is a development economist with over 40 years of experience in natural resource management, fisheries, agriculture, and climate change across Asia, Africa, and the Pacific. He holds a PhD in Natural Resource Economics/Fisheries and is a gold medalist in Economics. He served at the Asian Development Bank for 12 years in senior leadership and advisory roles, and previously worked with the World Fish Center, Mekong River Commission, and the World Bank. His expertise spans blue economy, fisheries and aquaculture value chains, rural development, food security, and climate resilience.
